The Infineon S25FL164K0XMFV013 is a 64 Mbit SPI NOR Flash memory from the FL1-K series, organized as 8M × 8 bits. It communicates over a Quad I/O SPI interface at up to 108 MHz, which gives a practical read throughput that can keep a Cortex-M or RISC-V core fed during execute-in-place (XIP) boot.
108 MHz Quad SPI — the throughput decision
That is enough to support XIP of firmware from flash without a shadow copy to RAM, provided the MCU's QSPI controller can match the timing. The 3 ms page write time is typical for NOR; it matters for OTA update staging where large blocks are written sequentially.
8-SOIC package — rework and footprint notes
The 8-SOIC (0.209" body width, 5.30 mm) is a straightforward hand-rework package. No exposed thermal pad, so the hot-air station profile is forgiving — 260°C peak for 10 seconds on the leads is safe. The narrow 1.27 mm pitch means a standard fine-tip iron or hot-air nozzle works. Just make sure the board footprint matches the 5.30 mm width; the narrower 3.90 mm SOIC-8 footprint will not fit.
