Spansion (now part of Cypress/Infineon) no longer manufactures the S25FL164K0XBHIS33 in volume. Any new design should migrate to a current-production NOR flash in the same 24-TBGA footprint; the FL1-K family has been superseded by newer Cypress/Infineon serial NOR families.
108 MHz Quad I/O — the throughput that matters
The 108 MHz clock frequency applies to the SPI Quad I/O interface, meaning the part can read four bits per clock cycle in fast-read mode. That translates to a theoretical peak of 54 MB/s — enough to feed an MCU executing code directly from flash (XIP) without stalling on a slow memory bus. The 3 ms page write time is typical for NOR; plan for that when sizing firmware update windows.
24-ball BGA (6x8 mm) — board layout and rework
The 24-TBGA package measures 6x8 mm with a 0.8 mm ball pitch. It is a surface-mount BGA that requires a reflow profile consistent with lead-free solder. The small footprint saves board space but demands careful routing — the balls are not staggered, so escape routing on a two-layer board is tight.
