The non-volatile NOR architecture supports byte- and page-level reads with a 3 ms write cycle time per page, making it a fit for firmware storage, configuration data, and OTA staging in industrial controllers, networking gear, and IoT edge nodes.
That means no last-time-buy windows remain, and new designs should not target this order code.
Rework note — 8-WSON with exposed pad
Rework is doable with hot air if you preheat the board to 100-120°C to reduce thermal shock. The pad is large relative to the package, so it wicks heat away from the leads — you need a nozzle that covers the whole body and a profile that hits 240°C pad temperature for at least 30 seconds. After removal, clean the pad site with braid and a tacky flux; the exposed pad needs fresh solder paste or a preform to ensure void-free attachment.
