ISDN primary access transceiver for telecom line cards
The Infineon PEB2236NV2.1 is a single-circuit ISDN primary access transceiver from the IPAT™ series, designed for the S/T or U interface on the network side of an ISDN connection. It handles the layer-1 framing and line coding for primary-rate ISDN (30B+D in Europe, 23B+D in North America), typically found on central-office line cards, PBX trunk interfaces, and legacy telecom test equipment. Operating from a 4.75V to 5.25V rail and drawing 190mA, this part is a 5V-only design — no core or I/O voltage split.
28-PLCC footprint and thermal considerations
Housed in a 28-lead PLCC (J-lead) package measuring 11.48x11.48 mm, the PEB2236NV2.1 uses a standard JEDEC footprint. The J-lead form factor is socketable in some production fixtures but is primarily intended for direct solder reflow. At 190mA continuous draw from a 5V rail (roughly 950mW dissipation), the PLCC's junction-to-ambient thermal resistance needs attention — a small copper pour under the body and vias to a ground plane help keep the die temperature within the commercial range.
For a legacy ISDN component still needed to maintain or extend existing telecom infrastructure, this means supply continuity without the usual end-of-life scramble.
