What the automotive grade means on the bench
The KP235XTMA1 is an Infineon absolute pressure sensor in an 8-SMD module, rated AEC-Q100 automotive grade. That qualification means it's been through the full reliability stress suite — temperature cycling, HAST, and extended life test — for under-hood deployment. The scorch mark on a failed MAP sensor tells you the previous part wasn't this one. Operating pressure range is 5.8 PSI to 16.68 PSI absolute (40 to 115 kPa), which covers intake manifold absolute pressure on a naturally aspirated gasoline engine and barometric sensing. The output is a ratiometric analog voltage from 0.5 V to 4.5 V, so it feeds directly into a 5 V ADC without scaling.
Accuracy and temperature compensation
Accuracy is ±0.348 PSI (±2.4 kPa) across the full range. The absolute pressure type means it measures against a sealed vacuum reference, not ambient — no vent tube to route. Maximum overpressure is 21.76 PSI (150 kPa), which gives margin above the 16.68 PSI max operating point.
Package and reflow reality
The 8-SMD module has SMT tab termination and no port — it's a surface-mount pressure sensor that reads through a hole in the PCB or a sealed cavity. The tape-and-reel packaging (available as cut tape or full reel) means it runs through a standard reflow oven, but the pressure port seal is sensitive to the thermal profile. Keep peak temperature within the module's rated limit; the datasheet's reflow curve is the one to follow.
