Product details

Motor controller with motion control engine – NRND watch

The Infineon IRMCF171TY is a controller IC from the iMOTION™ family integrating the MCE™ (Motion Control Engine) for sensorless field-oriented control of AC induction and synchronous motors. It combines commutation logic, direction management, and a three-phase half-bridge pre-driver output stage in a single 48-LQFP package.

Half-bridge pre-driver – external power stage required

The three half-bridge pre-driver outputs (rated as Power MOSFET technology) drive an external inverter stage — the IRMCF171TY does not integrate the power switches. The designer selects external MOSFETs or IGBTs matched to the motor voltage and current. The gate drive strength and dead-time are managed internally by the MCE, so the BOM adds six power devices plus bootstrap diodes.

Industrial temp grade and appliance-class deployment

NRND – last-time-buy planning recommended

Existing production runs should secure last-time-buy quantities or qualify a drop-in replacement. For new designs, Infineon recommends evaluating the current iMOTION IMM series or a comparable MCE-based controller.

Sourcing posture

Buyers with an active BOM line should request a quote promptly to lock allocation before the last-time-buy window closes.

Frequently asked questions

Is IRMCF171TY obsolete?

It is not yet fully discontinued, but Infineon advises against using it in new designs. Existing production should plan a last-time-buy or qualify an alternative.

What is the replacement for IRMCF171TY?

The functionally identical IRMCF171 (same die, same package) may be used as a cross-reference for existing BOMs.

Are IRMCF171TY and IRMCF171 compatible?

Yes — IRMCF171TY and IRMCF171 share the same base product number IRMCF171 and are functionally identical. The TY suffix indicates tray packaging. They are drop-in compatible for existing designs.
