40V, 195A N-channel in D2PAK — what the ratings mean for the switching design
The Infineon IRFS7437TRLPBF is a 40V N-channel MOSFET from the HEXFET® StrongIRFET™ family, built for high-current switching in DC/DC converters, motor drives, and battery management. The 1.8 mOhm typical on-resistance at 100A and 10V gate drive keeps conduction losses low, which matters when the load current pushes into the tens of amps and the PCB copper is already working hard to pull heat. Gate charge of 225 nC at 10V sets the drive budget: a gate-driver IC needs to source and sink that charge fast enough to hit the target switching frequency without excessive cross-conduction. The 195A continuous drain rating at 25°C case temperature gives headroom for pulsed loads, but the 230W power dissipation limit is the real constraint — thermal design, not the current number, decides how much the part can actually deliver in the enclosure.
Package and mounting — D2PAK footprint, surface-mount assembly
The TO-263AB (D2PAK) package with two leads and a tab is a surface-mount power package. The tab is the drain connection and the primary thermal path — the PCB pad and via array under the tab must be sized to pull heat into the board copper, because the junction-to-case thermal path is the one that keeps Tj under 175°C at full load. No through-hole mounting here — this part sits on the board, not through it.
Lifecycle and sourcing — active production, no obsolescence concern
The IRFS7437TRLPBF lifecycle status is active. No NRND flag, no last-time-buy notice. ROHS3 compliance is current.
