Package and mounting — no insulator needed

The TO-220 Full Pack (TO-220AB Full-Pak) has a fully isolated metal tab, so you can bolt it directly to a heatsink without a mica or silicone pad. Through-hole leads suit wave-solder or hand-assembly. The full-pack construction adds thermal resistance compared to a standard TO-220 — the 47W power dissipation limit at case temperature reflects that. Keep the case temperature down if you plan to pull near the 43A rating.

Temperature range and environment

Rated for a junction temperature range of -55°C to 175°C, which covers industrial motor drives, power supplies in outdoor telecom cabinets, and under-hood automotive auxiliary loads. The 175°C Tj(max) gives headroom for short-term overloads, but continuous operation near that limit will reduce lifetime — derate the current per the thermal curve in the datasheet.
