17 mOhm at 9 A — the conduction-loss floor for a 40 V FET
The 17 mOhm maximum on-resistance at Vgs=10 V sets the conduction loss in a buck converter or load switch — at 5 A the I²R loss is under 0.5 W, which keeps the junction temperature within the -55°C to 150°C operating range even in a still-air 8-SOIC layout.
Gate drive at 4.5 V — no separate driver needed
The FET is specified with a drive voltage range of 4.5 V to 10 V for achieving the rated Rds(on). The 23 nC total gate charge at 4.5 V means a 5 V PWM output from a microcontroller or a 3.3 V logic signal level-shifted to 5 V can switch this FET at moderate frequencies (tens of kHz) without a dedicated gate-driver IC. The ±20 V Vgs(max) gives headroom for gate ringing on long PCB traces.
It is ROHS3 compliant.
