Half-bridge gate driver with 600V bootstrap headroom
The Infineon IR21844 is a high-voltage half-bridge gate driver designed to drive IGBTs and N-channel MOSFETs in a synchronous channel configuration. It integrates a bootstrap diode rated to 600 V maximum high-side voltage, letting it float the high-side gate drive well above ground in a half-bridge leg — the topology used in motor drives, UPS inverters, and DC-DC converters where the high-side source swings with the switching node. That drive strength handles the gate charge of medium-power IGBTs and MOSFETs in the 30–100 nC range without excessive switching loss, though a higher-current driver is worth considering for paralleled devices or very large die.
Supply voltage spans 10 V to 20 V, covering the standard bias rail for industrial gate-drive circuits. The non-inverting input type means the output follows the input polarity: a logic high on the input turns on the corresponding output. That simplifies the firmware mapping compared to inverting drivers that require a logic inversion in the PWM timer.
