Half-bridge driver for 600V bus rails
The IR2184 is a high-voltage half-bridge gate driver from Infineon (formerly International Rectifier), designed to drive N-channel MOSFETs and IGBTs in synchronous buck, full-bridge, and two-switch forward converter topologies. It integrates a bootstrap diode for the high-side supply, allowing a single 10V to 20V bias rail to drive both the high- and low-side switches referenced to a 600 V maximum high-side voltage.
1.9A / 2.3A peak drive — what it buys you
The 1.9 A source and 2.3 A sink peak output current is enough to drive the gate capacitance of medium-power IGBTs and MOSFETs in the 10–30 A range at switching frequencies up to roughly 100 kHz. The asymmetric sink/source ratio favours fast turn-off, which reduces cross-conduction dead-time margin in hard-switched bridges. The 40 ns rise and 20 ns fall times keep switching losses manageable at moderate frequencies.
Through-hole package and temperature grade
Housed in an 8-pin DIP with 0.300-inch body width, this part is through-hole only — no surface-mount variant in the IR2184 family. The logic input thresholds (0.8 V VIL, 2.7 V VIH) are 5 V and 3.3 V logic compatible.
