Half-bridge driver for IGBT and MOSFET gates
The IR2151 is a half-bridge gate driver IC designed to drive IGBTs and N-channel MOSFETs in a synchronous half-bridge configuration. It integrates a 600 V bootstrap supply for the high-side driver, making it a compact choice for motor drives, switch-mode power supplies, and ballast circuits where a single RC input sets the oscillator frequency.
125 mA source, 250 mA sink — gate drive muscle
With a peak output current of 125 mA source and 250 mA sink, the IR2151 can charge and discharge the gate capacitance of medium-power IGBTs and MOSFETs fast enough for switching frequencies typical in half-bridge converters. The 80 ns rise and 40 ns fall times (typical) keep switching losses in check when the gate charge stays within the driver's current budget.
10 V to 20 V supply range
The supply voltage range of 10 V to 20 V covers standard gate drive levels for both IGBTs (typically 15 V) and logic-level MOSFETs (10 V). The 600 V bootstrap rating on the high side means the driver can sit on a half-bridge rail up to 600 V DC, which covers 230 VAC and 400 VAC inverter stages with margin.
Through-hole 8-PDIP — field-swappable
Housed in an 8-pin PDIP (0.300" wide), the IR2151 is a through-hole part that can be swapped in the field with basic tools — no hot-air station needed.
