Integrated fault protections simplify the BOM
Fixed current limiting, open-load detection, and over-temperature shutdown are built in. No external sense resistor or comparator is needed for basic fault handling. The auto-restart feature means the switch recovers after a fault clears without a power cycle.
Package and footprint – D2Pak (TO-263-5)
The TO-263-5 (D2Pak) package has four leads plus a large exposed tab. The tab is the main thermal path and the drain connection. A solid copper pour on the PCB under the tab is needed to keep junction temperatures down at high load currents.
