Last-buy status and what it means for your BOM
Infineon has placed the IPA60R1K5CEXKSA1 into a Last Buy lifecycle stage — the manufacturer is no longer accepting new orders for this specific order code, and the production window is closing. For a BOM that already carries this part, the decision is immediate: secure lifetime buy quantities or begin qualification of a replacement.
600 V, 5 A, 1.5 Ohm — the switching load it handles
A driver sourcing 1 A can charge the gate in about 9.4 ns, keeping switching losses manageable in a hard-switched topology like a flyback converter or PFC stage. The low gate charge relative to the voltage class is characteristic of the CoolMOS™ charge-compensation structure.
TO-220 Full Pack — isolated mounting, no extra insulator
The PG-TO220-FP (Full Pack) package has a fully molded back — the tab is not electrically connected to the drain, so the MOSFET can be bolted directly to a heatsink without a thermal pad or mica insulator. This simplifies assembly and reduces thermal resistance from junction to case, though the 20 W power dissipation ceiling still requires a heatsink for any significant continuous current. Through-hole mounting with a 3.5 V maximum gate threshold at 90 µA drain current means a standard 12 V gate drive from a PWM controller or driver IC turns the device fully on. The ±20 V maximum gate rating provides margin against ringing on long gate traces.
