650 V, 74 A TrenchStop IGBT in TO-220-3
The Infineon IGP40N65H5XKSA1 is a 650 V, 74 A TrenchStop IGBT in a TO-220-3 through-hole package, designed for hard-switching power conversion up to about 40 kHz. The 95 nC total gate charge and switching energies of 390 µJ (on) and 120 µJ (off) at 400 V, 20 A, 15 Ω gate resistor give a concrete starting point for loss budgeting in a motor drive or PFC stage.
Switching losses and thermal budget
At the test condition of 400 V, 20 A, 15 Ω gate drive, the turn-on energy is 390 µJ and turn-off is 120 µJ. Combined with the 255 W maximum power dissipation, these numbers let a designer estimate junction temperature rise at a given switching frequency — the 175°C Tj(max) rating provides headroom for high-ambient industrial or automotive environments.
Package and mounting — rework-friendly TO-220
The PG-TO220-3-1 (TO-220-3) through-hole package bolts directly to a heatsink with a single screw. The exposed metal tab carries the collector — no thermal pad to align, no paste to dispense. A rework tech can pull and replace this part with a soldering iron and a nut driver; the tab orientation and pin 1 marking are clear enough to get it back right the first time.
