Half-bridge driver for brushed DC motors – 55 A continuous, 8–40 V bus
The Infineon IFX007TAUMA1 is a half-bridge power IC integrating two N-channel Power MOSFETs in a TO-263-7 (D²Pak) package, designed for PWM control of brushed DC motors and general-purpose inductive loads. It delivers 55 A continuous output current per channel, with typical Rds(on) of 4.7 mΩ on the low-side and 5.3 mΩ on the high-side, keeping conduction losses manageable at high current. The supply and load share a common 8 V to 40 V rail, so a single 12 V, 24 V, or 36 V bus powers both the logic and the motor stage.
55 A is a continuous rating, not a pulse-only number. At that current, even 4.7 mΩ low-side Rds(on) dissipates over 14 W per channel. The PG-TO263-7-1 package's exposed tab must be soldered to a substantial copper pour and stitched with thermal vias to keep the junction below the 150 °C maximum. Without that thermal path, the device derates significantly above 85 °C ambient.
Fault protection set – what is covered and what is not
The IFX007TAUMA1 includes current limiting (cycle-by-cycle), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, short-circuit protection, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). These cover the common failure modes in a motor-drive output stage. There is no overvoltage clamp on the supply pin – the 40 V absolute maximum must be respected. The open-load detect works when the motor is off, which helps with wiring diagnostics during system power-up.
Active production – no obsolescence pressure
Infineon lists the IFX007TAUMA1 as an active product with ROHS3 compliance.
PG-TO263-7-1 – footprint notes
The package is a 7-lead TO-263 (D²Pak) with an exposed thermal tab. The 7-lead layout differs from the common 3-lead TO-263 – confirm the land pattern against the Infineon application note, not a generic D²Pak footprint.
