Flyback switcher with 800 V avalanche-rated MOSFET
The ICE3BR0680JZXKLA1 is an integrated offline flyback switcher from Infineon's CoolSET™ F3R series, combining a PWM controller with an 800 V avalanche-rated CoolMOS™ power MOSFET in a single PG-DIP-7-1 through-hole package. Rated for 82 W of output power, it targets isolated AC-DC converter designs in applications such as auxiliary power supplies, home appliance SMPS, and industrial bias supplies where a compact, single-chip flyback solution is preferred.
Switching frequency, duty cycle, and protection suite
The internal oscillator runs at a fixed 65 kHz switching frequency, a common choice for flyback converters that balances transformer size against switching losses in the 80 W class. Maximum duty cycle is 75%, which sets the primary-side on-time ceiling for the given turns ratio and reflected output voltage — a parameter the transformer designer must respect to avoid core saturation. On-chip fault protection covers over-load, over-temperature, and over-voltage conditions, allowing the device to shut down autonomously without external supervisory circuitry in most fault scenarios.
Supply range, startup, and thermal envelope
The Vcc supply range spans 10.5 V to 27 V, with a startup threshold of 17 V — the controller remains in undervoltage lockout below this level, preventing the MOSFET from switching until the auxiliary winding has charged the supply capacitor. Junction temperature rating extends from -40°C to 150°C, covering industrial and some automotive under-hood ambient conditions; the 150°C absolute maximum must be derated against the application's thermal resistance from junction to ambient.
Package and board integration
The 7-pin DIP layout places the drain pin opposite the control pins, simplifying the high-voltage creepage path on the PCB; the 0.300-inch (7.62 mm) body width fits standard DIP sockets or direct solder.
