256Kbit FRAM with SPI — the field-swap choice for non-volatile logging
The FM25V02A-DGQ is a 256Kbit (32K x 8) Ferroelectric RAM from Infineon's F-RAM series, communicating over an SPI bus at up to 40 MHz. No battery, no wear-leveling — FRAM writes at bus speed and retains data without a backup cell, which makes it a straight drop-in for serial EEPROM sockets where write endurance or write speed matters.
What the 40 MHz SPI and FRAM write behaviour mean for your firmware
At 40 MHz SPI clock, a 256Kbit read or write completes in roughly 800 µs at the bus level — no page-buffer wait states. FRAM writes are instantaneous at the memory cell; the SPI transaction time is the only delay, so the MCU does not poll a ready/busy flag after each write. On a 3.3V system, the SPI input thresholds are 0.7 × VDD, so a 3.3V MCU drives it directly; on a 2.5V rail, the output drive is still strong enough for a 10 pF load at 40 MHz.
Package and board-fit — 8-DFN with exposed pad
The pad improves thermal conduction during reflow and gives a solid mechanical anchor — no tombstoning risk on a standard lead-free profile. The package is supplied in Tube — not tape-and-reel — so if your pick-and-place feeder expects embossed tape, order the tape-and-reel variant (FM25V02A-DGQTR) instead. The DFN footprint is the same; only the shipping medium changes.
It is fully RoHS3 compliant, so it passes into EU and UKCA markets without an exemption declaration.
