64 Kbit FRAM with I²C — what this chip does
The Cypress FM24CL64B-GATR is a 64 Kbit non-volatile FRAM (Ferroelectric RAM) organized as 8K x 8 bits, accessed over an I²C interface at up to 1 MHz. It combines the non-volatility of EEPROM with the write speed and endurance of SRAM — no write delays, no page buffers, no wear-leveling needed. The 550 ns access time means the bus can run back-to-back reads and writes at the full 1 MHz clock without wait states, which is the main reason designers pick FRAM over serial EEPROM for data-logging or parameter-update-heavy applications.
Obsolete — sourcing and replacement
No official successor order code is provided in the lifecycle record. For new designs or BOM lines that need a drop-in, a pin-compatible FRAM in the same family with the same I²C interface, 64 Kbit density, and 8-SOIC footprint is the natural cross-shop candidate — verify supply voltage and temperature grade against the replacement. For existing production, surplus and broker channels are the route; we source and quote this part to order against an RFQ.
