Capacitive touch controller for replacing mechanical buttons
The CY8CMBR2044-24LKXIT is a CapSense® Express™ capacitive touch-sensing controller from Infineon, designed as a drop-in replacement for mechanical pushbuttons in human-machine interfaces. Operating from a single 1.75V to 5.5V supply, it draws just 4 mA typical, making it suitable for both battery-powered handhelds and 5V logic systems.
Supply flexibility and LED drive
The wide 1.75V to 5.5V supply range means the part runs from a single lithium coin cell (down to 1.8V) up to a standard 5V USB rail without a regulator. The 4 mA supply current at full operation keeps the battery budget low for always-on touch interfaces. Each of the up to 4 LED driver channels can sink current for status or backlight LEDs, reducing external component count. The part does not support proximity detection — it registers touch only on contact, which is the expected behavior for button-replacement applications.
Package and board integration
Housed in a 16-UFQFN (3x3 mm) package, the CY8CMBR2044-24LKXIT requires a surface-mount assembly process. The 16-QFN footprint with 0.5 mm pitch demands careful PCB layout for the exposed pad thermal and ground connection. ROHS3 compliance is confirmed, and the active lifecycle status means no end-of-life planning is needed for new designs.
