PSoC 4 BLE — single-chip MCU with Bluetooth and CapSense
It integrates Bluetooth LE radio, CapSense capacitive touch sensing, LCD segment drive, and a 12-bit SAR ADC with eight channels — all in a 56-pin QFN package with 36 general-purpose I/Os. This part is designed for wireless sensor nodes, human-machine interfaces, portable medical devices, and industrial controls where a single-chip BLE solution with analog front-end and touch sensing replaces a multi-IC BOM.
The 48 MHz Cortex-M0 core is a balanced trade-off: enough throughput for BLE protocol stacks, sensor polling loops, and capacitive touch scanning without the power overhead of a Cortex-M4. The 8 KB SRAM (implied by the PSoC 4 BLE family architecture) handles BLE connection buffers and a modest RTOS tick. If your application needs a larger code footprint or a DSP-capable core, the PSoC 6 series (CY8C6137BZI-F54) with Cortex-M4 at 150 MHz is a pin-incompatible but architecturally related step-up.
Bluetooth, CapSense, and LCD drive — peripherals that define the part
The CY8C4247LQI-BL493 includes Bluetooth LE (BLE) radio, CapSense capacitive touch sensing, and LCD segment drive as on-chip peripherals. The BLE block is Bluetooth 4.2 compliant — it does not support Bluetooth 5.0 features like LE Audio, 2 Mbps PHY, or extended advertising. If your product requires Bluetooth 5.0, a newer PSoC 6 BLE variant or an external BLE 5.0 transceiver would be needed. The CapSense block supports self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance sensing for touch buttons, sliders, and proximity detection without external touch controller ICs. The LCD drive supports up to 32x4 segment displays, useful for battery-powered instruments with a simple glass LCD.
The supply voltage range of 1.71 V to (implied 3.6 V by the PSoC 4 family) allows direct battery operation from a single Li-ion cell or two alkaline cells without a separate regulator.
