CapSense touch controller for embedded HMI
The Infineon CY8C20336A-24LQXIT is a dedicated capacitive-sensing controller from the CapSense® series, built around an M8C core with 8 KB of Flash program memory and 1K x 8 of RAM. It handles touch-button, slider, and proximity sensing without a separate host MCU for the sense processing — the on-chip engine scans the capacitive channels and reports results over I²C or SPI to the system controller. Twenty general-purpose I/O lines are available for LED drive, wake-up interrupts, or auxiliary digital functions. Supply voltage spans 1.71 V to 5.5 V. Operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.
Memory and firmware considerations
8 KB of Flash holds the CapSense tuning parameters, scan sequences, and communication stack. That is enough for a handful of buttons with LED feedback and a basic I²C register map. If the application needs more than a few hundred lines of C or a complex state machine, the 1K x 8 RAM becomes the tighter constraint — watch the stack and variable allocation during development.
Lifecycle and compliance
Status is Active per the manufacturer — no end-of-life notice, no last-time-buy window to track. ROHS3 compliant, so it clears the EU RoHS exemption list without a problem.
