15 ns access — the timing margin for a 5V FIFO
The CY7C464A-15JC is a 288 Kbit (32 K × 9) asynchronous FIFO from the CY7C series, with a 15 ns access time and 40 MHz maximum data rate. The 9-bit width (8 data + 1 parity/control) suits designs that need an extra flag or error-check bit per word without widening the bus to 18 bits. The 15 ns access time sets the read-cycle floor — at 40 MHz the cycle time is 25 ns, leaving 10 ns of timing margin for address decoding and output settling before the next read strobe. Retransmit capability allows the FIFO to re-read previously output data without a full reset — useful in packet-retry or buffer-replay scenarios where the host needs to re-send a data block after a CRC mismatch.
32-PLCC footprint and reflow reality
Housed in a 32-lead PLCC (J-Lead) package, 11.43 × 13.97 mm body. The J-bend leads are less prone to tombstoning than gull-wing packages, but the PLCC body traps flux residues under the package — a no-clean flux with a post-reflow wash step is recommended for high-reliability builds. Supplied in tube packaging, which is pick-and-place compatible but requires a tube feeder or vibratory bowl — not tape-and-reel. Plan for tube-handling equipment or manual loading at the placement machine.
Infineon lists the CY7C464A-15JC as obsolete. No official successor part number is recorded.
