Synchronous FIFO for high-speed buffering
The Infineon (Cypress) CY7C4215-15AXI is a synchronous FIFO memory from the CY7C series, designed to buffer data between two clock domains or bus widths in digital systems. The 9K (512 x 18) memory array is organized as 512 words by 18 bits, suiting 16- or 18-bit datapaths with parity or ECC overhead.
Key features for the design-in decision
Retransmit capability allows reading the same data multiple times, useful for packet retry or debug. Programmable flags (almost-full, almost-empty) are supported, giving the host controller early warning before overflow or underflow. Expansion in both depth and width is supported, so multiple devices can cascade for larger buffers without external logic. The part is unidirectional, meaning data flows in one direction only — not a bidirectional dual-port. Maximum supply current is 50 mA. The 64-LQFP package (also specified as 64-TQFP, 14x14 mm body) is a common surface-mount footprint with 0.8 mm pitch.
