This part was designed for cache-tag storage, high-speed buffers, and microcontroller data memory in legacy 5 V systems where deterministic read/write timing matters.
15 ns access time — timing closure for the bus
In a 5 V asynchronous bus, this gives the memory controller a fixed window for address decode and data capture. A 15 ns part is fast enough for most 8-bit and 16-bit microcontrollers running at 20–40 MHz, but a 10 ns or 12 ns sibling would be needed if the bus cycle is tighter than 20 ns.
Cypress (now part of Infineon) no longer manufactures this device.
Package and footprint: 28-SOJ
This is a surface-mount, J-lead package with a 1.27 mm pitch. The SOJ footprint is less common than TSOP but was widely used in 1990s–2000s SRAM and logic designs. The shipping medium is Tube.
Temperature grade: commercial only
If the application sees temperature extremes, a different SRAM with an extended temperature range is needed.
