1 Mbit NVSRAM with SPI — what the ratings mean for the BOM
The CY14B101PA-SFXIT is a 1 Mbit non-volatile SRAM organized as 128K x 8 bits, accessed over an SPI bus at up to 40 MHz. NVSRAM combines the fast random-access of SRAM with on-chip non-volatile storage — data written to the SRAM array is automatically stored to the shadow EEPROM on power-down, so no external battery or supercap is needed to retain the contents. For a firmware engineer, the 40 MHz SPI clock translates to a sustained read throughput of roughly 5 Mbytes/s in quad-I/O mode — fast enough to shadow a boot image or serve as a temporary execution buffer. The 128K x 8 organization is byte-addressable, which simplifies parameter storage and data-logging routines compared to page-based serial flash.
