Dual high-side PROFET for 12 V automotive loads
The Infineon BTS71202EPAXUMA1 is a dual-channel N-channel high-side power switch from the Automotive PROFET® family, qualified to AEC-Q100. It switches resistive, inductive, and capacitive loads on a 6 V to 18 V supply rail, with each channel rated for 2 A continuous output and a typical on-resistance of 61 mOhm. The switch is controlled by a simple On/Off interface with a non-inverting input — no external Vcc supply needed. The integrated fault protection covers overcurrent, overvoltage, short circuit, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO), making it a self-contained load driver for automotive body controllers, lighting, and solenoid actuation.
The 61 mOhm typical on-resistance at 25°C keeps conduction losses low for loads up to 2 A per channel — expect roughly 0.24 W dissipation at full load per channel before accounting for temperature derating.
Fault protection: self-contained, no external supervisor needed
This PROFET integrates overcurrent limiting, overvoltage clamping, short-circuit shutdown, and undervoltage lockout on each channel. That means the MCU does not need to monitor the load current or bus voltage — the switch handles fault detection and auto-retry internally. For a 12 V automotive rail that sees load-dump transients up to 40 V, the overvoltage protection on this part clips the stress before it reaches the downstream load. The UVLO ensures the switch turns off cleanly if the supply drops below the operating threshold, preventing the load from seeing a partially enhanced MOSFET.
Package and rework: PG-TSDSO-14-22 with exposed pad
For rework, the exposed pad means the part needs a bottom-side preheat or a hot-air profile that brings the entire pad to reflow temperature without overheating the plastic body. The pad is large enough that hand-soldering with an iron is impractical; plan for a hot-air station or reflow oven. Orientation is marked by pin 1 chamfer on the package — no confusing pinout on this footprint.
Sourcing and lifecycle
For dual-sourcing resilience, note that the BTS142DATMA1 is a different configuration — single-channel low-side HITFET with 23 mOhm Rds(on) — so it is not a pin-compatible second source for this high-side switch.
