Package and mounting
The Infineon BTS5120-2EKA is a PROFET dual-channel high-side power switch rated for 1 A continuous output per channel, with a typical on-resistance of 200 mOhm. It switches loads from 5 V to 28 V and needs no external Vcc supply — the gate drive is self-biased from the load voltage. The 200 mOhm Rds(on) at 25°C means the conduction loss at 1 A is roughly 0.2 W per channel — manageable in the exposed-pad PG-DSO-14-40-EP package if the PCB copper area under the pad is sized for thermal dissipation. At elevated junction temperatures the on-resistance rises; the 150°C absolute maximum junction rating gives headroom for under-hood or motor-drive environments.
Fault protection and diagnostics — fewer external parts
The BTS5120-2EKA integrates current limiting (fixed), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, over-voltage clamp, and short-circuit protection. For a BOM engineer, this means the external sense resistor, comparator, and protection clamp can often be dropped — the PROFET handles the monitoring internally and reports faults via the logic-level input pins. The slew-rate controlled switching reduces EMI, which is useful when switching inductive loads like relays or solenoids in the same harness as sensitive electronics.
Package and rework — the exposed pad matters
The part comes in a PG-DSO-14-40-EP package. Under a hot-air station, the pad soaks heat fast; preheat the board before attempting removal, and use a wide nozzle to keep the part body evenly heated.
Sourcing and lifecycle — no LTB risk
For dual-source planning, a known pin-compatible variant exists within the same PROFET family — confirm the Rds(on) and protection feature set against your load requirements before substituting.
