Low-side switch with integrated protection — what it covers
The Infineon BTS3142DATMA1 is a single-channel N-channel low-side power switch from the HITFET® family. Its 23 mOhm typical Rds(on) supports a 4.6 A continuous output rating, and the 42 V max load voltage provides headroom for load-dump transients. Built-in fault protection — current limiting (fixed), over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping — reduces the need for external sense resistors or TVS diodes, simplifying the BOM and improving reliability in harsh conditions. The On/Off interface requires no external Vcc supply; the gate is driven directly from the logic-level input, which simplifies the drive circuit.
The part comes in a TO-252-3 (DPak) surface-mount package with a single tab for thermal dissipation. The tab is the drain connection, so the PCB layout must account for that — typically a large copper pour on the drain pad for heat sinking. Rework is straightforward with hot air; the tab solders well if the board has a thermal via array underneath.
For BOM planning, this part carries no LTB risk and is suitable for new designs as well as ongoing production.
