The BTS3118D: The 70 mOhm typical on-resistance at 25°C sets the conduction-loss floor for this low-side switch. At 2.4 A continuous output, the I²R loss is about 0.4 W — manageable in the DPak footprint with adequate copper pour on the drain tab.

Fault protection set — external circuitry not needed

Fixed current limiting, over-load, over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit protection are all integrated. This reduces the external component count for a resistive or inductive load switch — no separate fuse, clamp, or thermal sensor is required for basic protection. The slew-rate controlled switching also limits inrush current and EMI on the load line.

Package and footprint — DPak thermal considerations

The TO-252-3 (DPak) package has two leads plus a drain tab. The supplier device package is PG-TO252-3-11. The 42 V load voltage rating and the 2.4 A maximum output current are both derated by the actual junction temperature; the -40°C to 150°C operating range is the hard limit.
