Fast switching diode in a small SOT-23 package
The Infineon BAS16B5000 is a standard switching diode from the BAS16 series, housed in a PG-SOT23-3-11 surface-mount package. This combination makes it a common choice for high-speed switching, signal clamping, and protection circuits where board space is tight.
The 4 ns trr is the key spec for this diode. It means the diode can switch from forward conduction to reverse blocking in 4 ns, which suits it for rectifying or clamping signals in the low-MHz range. In a typical flyback snubber or high-speed logic protection circuit, that speed keeps switching losses low and prevents excessive ringing. The datasheet also lists a junction capacitance of 2 pF at 0 V, which helps maintain signal integrity in RF or high-speed digital lines.
80 V and 250 mA — the operating envelope
With an 80 V reverse voltage rating and 250 mA average forward current, this diode fits into low-power secondary-side rectification, relay coil suppression, and general-purpose signal clamping. The forward voltage drop is 1.25 V at 150 mA, typical for a small-signal switching diode. Reverse leakage is 1 µA at 75 V, which is low enough for battery-powered circuits where idle draw matters.
