What the 35V clamp means on a signal line
The 35V clamping voltage is the point where the polymer material transitions from high impedance to a low-impedance shunt. For a 3.3V or 5V data line, this clamp triggers well above the normal signal swing — it only activates during an ESD event, not during normal logic transitions. Polymer technology responds faster than a typical TVS diode in the same package class, which matters when the ESD pulse rise time is under 1 ns. The trade-off is a slightly higher leakage after repeated strikes compared to a silicon-based protector.
0603 footprint — fits a standard reflow profile
Housed in an 0603 (1608 metric) SMD package, the 0603ESDA-TR1 shares the same land pattern as a standard 0603 resistor or capacitor. No special pad geometry or thermal relief is needed — it reflows on a standard lead-free profile alongside passives. Supplied on tape and reel, it feeds into a standard pick-and-place machine without a feeder change. The cut-tape option works for prototype or small-batch builds.
