The 0603ESDA-AEC1: This is the same qualification level required for passive components in engine control units, transmission modules, and chassis-domain ECUs. The 35V typical clamping voltage defines the protection ceiling — downstream ICs on a 12V or 24V automotive bus see the transient clipped at this level. For a 24V nominal truck or off-highway system, the margin between the bus voltage and the clamp point is tight; the 35V clamp leaves roughly 10V of headroom above a 24V rail, which is adequate for load-dump transients that stay within the ISO 7637-2 pulse 5a envelope.
Board-fit and placement constraints
Housed in the standard 0603 (1608 metric) package, this ESD suppressor shares the same 1.6 mm × 0.8 mm footprint as a common 0603 resistor or capacitor. No special pad geometry is required — the standard two-terminal land pattern for 0603 chip components applies. The surface-mount body reflows on a standard lead-free profile; no pre-bake is needed below MSL 1, which is typical for this package class. Single-circuit protection per device means each 0603ESDA-AEC1 guards one signal line or power rail. For multi-line interfaces like CAN, LIN, or sensor inputs, you place one device per line. The 0603 pitch keeps the layout dense enough for a 10+ line array on a 20 mm board edge.
