Single-axis Hall sensor with ±40 mT range
The AH8501-FDC-7 is a single-axis Hall effect sensor from Diodes Incorporated, outputting an analog voltage proportional to the applied magnetic field. Its ±40 mT sensing range covers linear position, proximity, and current-sense applications where the magnetic flux stays within that window — beyond it the output saturates, so the mechanical air gap and magnet strength must be set to keep the field inside the linear band. The analog output simplifies the signal chain: a single ADC channel reads the voltage, and the system firmware maps it to gauss or position. No digital interface overhead, but the ADC's reference accuracy and noise floor set the usable resolution — the sensor itself is 8-bit, so a 10-bit or higher ADC captures the full scale without quantization loss.
Supply range and power budget
Maximum supply current is 1.5 mA, and with Sleep Mode available, the average draw in a duty-cycled system drops well below that — the sleep current isn't specified here, but the feature is intended for battery-powered designs where the sensor wakes, takes a reading, and goes back to sleep. If the ADC input impedance is below 10 kΩ, a unity-gain buffer between the sensor and the converter keeps the reading accurate.
Package and thermal interface

The exposed pad on the bottom side must be soldered to a PCB copper land and connected to ground — this provides the thermal path for self-heating and also stabilises the magnetic offset by tying the substrate to a quiet reference plane. Temperature grade and industrial fit
The Hall element itself has no wear mechanism, so the lifetime is limited by the package solder joints and the PCB's thermal cycling endurance.
