180 µH shielded drum core — the load-current ceiling
The LPS4018-184MRC is a 180 µH shielded power inductor from Coilcraft's LPS4018 series, rated for 260 mA continuous current with a saturation floor of 240 mA. The 2.5 Ohm max DCR means the I²R loss at full load sits around 169 mW — a figure that stays within the package's thermal budget for most PCB layouts, but one to check against your ambient temperature derating if the inductor sits near a hot regulator or processor.
Shielded construction and footprint fit
The ferrite-core drum is fully shielded, which contains the magnetic field within the 3.90 mm × 3.90 mm footprint. This matters when the inductor shares a tight layout with sensitive analog or RF circuits — the shield reduces radiated coupling into adjacent traces. Surface-mount package in a nonstandard case — confirm the pad geometry against your PCB footprint before committing. The ±20% tolerance is typical for power inductors; the actual inductance at the saturation current point will be lower than the 180 µH nominal, so design the downstream filter or converter around the minimum value.
Coilcraft lists the LPS4018-184MRC as Active.
