The Coilcraft LPS3015-682MRC is an active-production shielded power inductor in the LPS3015 series, qualified to AEC-Q200 for automotive-grade reliability. That means it passes the full suite of stress tests — thermal shock, moisture resistance, mechanical shock, and vibration — required for under-hood and chassis-mounted electronics.
DCR and saturation — the two numbers that decide the thermal budget
300 mOhm max DCR at 25°C: at 900 mA the I²R loss is 243 mW, which raises the internal temperature roughly 15–20°C above ambient in still air. In a 105°C ambient the part sees ~125°C internal — right at the 125°C absolute maximum, so derate current if the board runs hot. The 890 mA saturation current is specified at the inductance drop point (typically 30% loss). If your load sees a transient peak above 890 mA the inductance collapses and the ripple current spikes — keep the peak DC bias 20% below Isat for margin in a buck converter. Self-resonant frequency is 58 MHz, well above the 1–5 MHz switching frequencies of most POL converters, so the inductor behaves as a pure inductance in-band. The ferrite core material keeps core losses low up to several MHz.

The nonstandard case has no centre pad — two-terminal layout, no thermal pad to worry about. Surface-mount, shielded construction: the ferrite shield contains the magnetic field within the package, reducing crosstalk to adjacent traces or a nearby wireless antenna. This matters when the inductor sits within 5 mm of a 2.4 GHz radio front-end. No derating needed at 85°C; at 125°C the current rating drops per the Coilcraft derating curve (typically 80% of rated current).
