The copper pad area under the package sets the thermal resistance — for a 1500W pulse, the board's copper plane acts as the heat sink, so a larger pad reduces junction temperature rise during the transient. No power line protection feature — this is a signal or DC rail clamp, not a mains-side suppressor.
