Digital input, stereo output — what this amp does
The SSM2518CPZ-R7 is a 2-channel (stereo) Class D amplifier from Analog Devices that delivers 2.5 W per channel into a 4 Ω load. It accepts digital audio directly via I²S, so no external DAC is needed between the audio source and the speaker terminals. Volume control, mute, and shutdown are managed through an I²C interface, which keeps the BOM count low for portable speakers, soundbars, and IoT audio endpoints.
Supply and temperature — fits portable and industrial gear
The supply range runs from 2.5 V to 5.5 V. The operating temperature span of -40°C to +85°C covers outdoor telecom, factory-floor audio alerts, and automotive cabin applications. The 20-LFCSP (4x4 mm) package with exposed pad needs a thermal via pattern under the pad to pull heat into the PCB copper.
Protection features — short-circuit and thermal shutdown
On-chip short-circuit and thermal protection are included, along with a depop circuit that suppresses turn-on clicks. The mute and shutdown pins let the host controller park the output during idle periods, which matters for battery-powered designs where quiescent draw needs to be near zero.
