5V fixed rail for always-on loads
The MAX8878EUK50 is a 5V fixed-output LDO in a SOT-23-5 package, rated for 150mA continuous output. Its 180µA quiescent current and 100µA maximum supply current make it suited for battery-powered or always-on subsystems where the regulator's own draw must stay below the load's sleep current. With a 6.5V absolute maximum input, a 5V rail from a 6V unregulated wall adapter or a 5.5V switching preregulator leaves enough headroom, but a 5.0V rail does not — the LDO falls out of regulation once the input dips below 5.165V.
Protection and control for unregulated rails
Over-current, over-temperature, reverse polarity, and short-circuit protection are all on-die — the regulator survives a hard short on the output and a reversed input connection without external clamp diodes. The SOT-23-5 footprint is a standard 5-pin SOT-23 layout; the thermal pad is the die attach, so the PCB copper area under the package sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance.
