CCD bias supply in a 3x3 mm package
The Maxim MAX8614BETD+TCK5 is a dual-output DC-DC converter specifically designed for biasing CCD image sensors. It accepts a 3V to 5.5V input rail and generates an adjustable positive output up to 24V and an adjustable negative output down to -16V, both from a single inductor topology.
Why the dual-output topology matters for CCD designs
CCD sensors require a positive bias (typically 15V to 24V for the vertical clock and output amplifier) and a negative bias (typically -5V to -16V for the substrate). The MAX8614BETD+TCK5 delivers both from a single 3V to 5.5V input with only one inductor, saving board area versus a two-converter solution. The adjustable outputs let you dial in the exact voltages the sensor datasheet calls for — no fixed-voltage variant hunting.
Package and thermal: exposed pad is not optional
The 14-WFDFN exposed pad (14-TDFN 3x3 mm) is the primary thermal path. Solder the pad to a PCB copper plane — without it, the junction temperature rises quickly under load.
