The MAX8548EUB+ is a step-down (buck) switching regulator controller from Analog Devices, designed to drive external N-channel MOSFETs in a synchronous rectifier topology. The single output is configured as a positive voltage, and the controller includes an enable pin for on/off control.
At 100kHz, the MAX8548EUB+ runs at the lower end of the switching frequency range for modern buck controllers. This keeps switching losses low and simplifies the layout — you can use a larger inductor and fewer ceramic output capacitors without worrying about excessive ripple. The trade-off is that the inductor and output capacitor will be physically larger than what you would need with a 500kHz or 1MHz controller. For a design where board space is not the tightest constraint and you want to minimise switching noise, 100kHz is a practical choice.
Synchronous rectification: efficiency without the diode drop
The MAX8548EUB+ includes synchronous rectifier drive, enabling use of a low-side N-channel MOSFET instead of a Schottky diode.
The 10-pin uMAX/uSOP package (3.00mm width) and surface-mount Tube delivery suit compact layouts.
The part is marked with the full order code MAX8548EUB+ and is not a discontinued or NRND variant.
