Product details

Fixed 5 V step-down for through-hole boards

The MAX738AEPA+ is a fixed 5 V output buck converter from Analog Devices, rated for 750 mA continuous output current. It switches at 160 kHz and operates from a 6 V to 16 V input rail.

Switching frequency and output stage

At 160 kHz the switching frequency is low enough to keep external inductor and capacitor sizes moderate, but high enough to stay out of the audio band. No synchronous rectifier means the freewheeling diode is external — choose a Schottky with adequate reverse voltage margin for the 16 V max input. The fixed 5 V output eliminates the need for an external feedback divider, reducing BOM count. Single-output positive configuration simplifies the power tree for 5 V logic rails, sensor supplies, or relay coil drivers.
