The MAX7221CWG+ is a serial-input, common-cathode display driver that interfaces to a 7-segment LED display plus decimal point, handling up to 8 digits.
The 330 mA supply current covers the driver IC plus the LED segment current it sinks. The actual current depends on the LED forward voltage and the segment current set by an external resistor (RSET).
It is not specified for industrial or automotive use.
