The MAX7219EWG+: It drives up to eight 7-segment digits with decimal points from a single 4V to 5.5V rail, pulling 330 mA max when all segments are lit — the supply current is the thermal budget number, not the segment current.
Housed in a 24-SOIC wide-body (0.295", 7.50 mm width) — the same footprint as the industry-standard MAX7219 in SOIC, so a layout done for the earlier part picks up without a board spin. Surface-mount assembly, supplied in tube — the tube quantity matches standard pick-and-place feeder loading for medium-volume runs.
Interface and temperature grade
The 4-wire serial interface (data in, load, clock, data out) daisy-chains multiple drivers on one SPI bus — the data-out pin feeds the next driver's data-in without an extra chip select.
