Driver for 8-digit LED multiplexing
The MAX7219CWG+T is a serial-input/output common-cathode display driver from Analog Devices, designed to drive up to 8 digits of 7-segment LED displays with decimal point (DP) per digit. Its 4-wire serial interface (data in, data out, load, clock) connects directly to a microcontroller's SPI or GPIO pins, handling the multiplexing and current regulation internally so the host MCU is free for other tasks.
SOIC-24 footprint and board integration
The 24-SOIC footprint is standard and well-supported by PCB layout tools. The tape-and-reel variant is the production-friendly format for pick-and-place — the reel quantity suits medium-to-high volume builds, while cut-tape is available for prototypes or small runs.
