8-digit 7-segment LED driver in a 16-pin SSOP
The Maxim MAX6951CEE+ is a serial-interfaced LED display driver designed to control up to 8 digits of 7-segment common-cathode LED displays. It communicates over a 3-wire serial interface, making it a clean fit for microcontroller-based front panels, instrumentation readouts, and point-of-sale displays where a parallel bus would waste GPIO. The driver integrates segment current control, so each digit's brightness can be set individually without external resistors per segment. Supply current is typically 10 mA, which is the driver's own consumption; the LED current comes from the supply rail through the driver's output stages.
Package and footprint — 16-SSOP / 16-QSOP
It is a surface-mount part, intended for reflow assembly. The 16-pin SSOP footprint is common and routes easily on a two-layer board; the fine pitch (0.025" / 0.635 mm typical) calls for a soldermask-defined pad layout.
It is ROHS3 compliant.
