The MAX6007BEUR is a shunt voltage reference from Analog Devices, delivering a fixed 2.048 V output with a ±0.5% initial tolerance. That 2.048 V rail is a common ADC reference voltage — it maps cleanly to a 0–2.048 V input range for a 12- or 16-bit converter, giving a 0.5 mV LSB at 12 bits without needing a level-shifter. The shunt topology means it behaves like a two-terminal Zener — it regulates by sinking current from the load side through the cathode. The maximum cathode current is 2 mA, and the minimum operating current is just 1 µA. That 1 µA floor is the key number for battery-powered designs: the reference itself draws negligible quiescent current, so it won't drain the supply when the ADC is sleeping.
Temperature drift and noise — the stability specs that matter
Temperature coefficient is 75 ppm/°C. For a 12-bit ADC with a 2.048 V reference, that shift is about 18 LSBs across temperature. If your system calibrates at room temperature and sees a 50°C rise in the enclosure, budget about 7.7 mV of drift. That's the 1/f noise region — it sets the noise floor for precision DC measurements. In a 16-bit system with a 2.048 V reference, 60 µVp-p is about 1.9 LSBs of peak-to-peak noise, which is acceptable for most industrial sensor interfaces but marginal for metrology-grade applications.
SOT-23-3 footprint and reflow considerations
The MAX6007BEUR comes in a SOT-23-3 package, also described as TO-236-3 / SC-59. It's a three-lead surface-mount package with a 0.95 mm pitch — standard for small-signal discretes. The footprint is shared with many shunt references and transistors, so a single pad pattern on the board can serve multiple BOM alternatives. The package is supplied in Bulk, not tape-and-reel. That means it ships in tubes or loose — fine for prototyping and low-volume production, but if your pick-and-place line expects reeled parts, you'll need to transfer to a feeder-compatible carrier or source a reeled variant. Check the MSL rating before the reflow profile; SOT-23-3 packages typically run MSL 1, but confirm the date code lot's moisture sensitivity if the parts have been in storage.
