Device type and key parametrics
The MAX5902LCEUT+T is a single-channel hot swap controller from the Simple Swapper™ series, designed for general-purpose applications where a board must be inserted into a live backplane without glitching the supply rail. It operates from a 9V to 72V supply and draws 1 mA quiescent current — the wide input range suits 12V, 24V, or 48V telecom and industrial backplanes without a separate bias rail. The controller does not integrate an internal switch; an external N-channel MOSFET handles the pass element, giving the designer control over the Rds(on) and current-sense resistor sizing.
Protection and programmability
Built-in protection includes fault timeout, latched fault shutdown, and thermal limit — if the external MOSFET exceeds the die temperature threshold, the controller latches off until the input power is cycled. The only programmable feature is the undervoltage lockout (UVLO) threshold, set via an external resistor divider on the UVLO pin — no external capacitor is needed for the fault timer, which is fixed internally.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in a 6-pin SOT-23 package (SOT-6 supplier device package), the part is surface-mount and suited for dense PCB layouts where board area is at a premium.
