Signal-path switch for precision analog routing
The MAX4516CPA+ is a single-pole single-throw normally-open analog switch from Analog Devices, housed in an 8-DIP through-hole package (0.300" body width). It is specified for single-supply operation from 2 V to 12 V or dual supplies from ±1 V to ±6 V, making it suitable for split-rail signal chains in bench instruments and audio routing. Maximum on-resistance is 20 Ohm, which sets the insertion loss floor for a precision analog path — a 10 kOhm load sees a 0.2 % voltage divider error from the switch alone. Charge injection is rated at 10 pC typical, a key parameter for sample-and-hold circuits where each switching event adds a pedestal error to the held voltage.
Switching speed and leakage for high-impedance nodes
Maximum turn-on time is 100 ns and turn-off time is 75 ns, fast enough for multiplexing audio or low-speed data signals up to a few megahertz. Off-channel leakage current is 1 nA maximum, critical when the switch is used in a high-impedance integrator or photodiode amplifier where leakage creates offset drift. Channel capacitance is 9 pF on both source and drain sides, contributing to the bandwidth roll-off and feedthrough at higher frequencies. In a 50 Ohm system the -3 dB point from a single 9 pF cap is roughly 350 MHz; in a high-impedance path the capacitance dominates settling time.
ROHS3 compliant. The through-hole DIP package is widely stocked and does not require a moisture-sensitive-device bake before assembly. No official second-source or direct replacement is listed; the part is sourced per RFQ through our distribution network.
