40 Mbps full-duplex — bus timing and cable reach
Rated for 40 Mbps data rate in full-duplex mode, the MAX3466CPD supports the RS-485 and RS-422 protocols. At 40 Mbps the usable cable length drops to roughly a few metres before signal degradation from reflections and attenuation sets in; for longer runs the data rate must be reduced.
Supply and temperature — fit for indoor equipment
Operates from a single 4.75V to 5.25V supply — a standard 5 V rail. The commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C limits this part to indoor, non-condensing environments such as office equipment, test instruments, and control panels. For industrial or outdoor deployments, a wider-temperature variant would be needed.
Through-hole 14-PDIP — footprint and assembly
Housed in a 14-PDIP package with 0.300-inch (7.62 mm) body width. Through-hole mounting simplifies prototyping and rework, but the DIP footprint occupies more board area than a surface-mount alternative. The supplier device package is 14-PDIP; the package is RoHS non-compliant, so verify your assembly line's solder process and any regulatory requirements.
